5 Second Review: Doomsday

New film from the Director of Dogs Soldiers and The Descent. A deadly virus has been contained inside a wall that surrounds Scotland. 25 years after the first outbreak the disease reaches London and a team of army types need to go back into the forbidden zone to find a cure that may or may not exist.

Pros:

  • Director Neil Marshall does Horror well. And by well I mean bloody.
  • Kind of a mixtures between 28 Weeks Later and Mad Max 2 and 3.
  • Hoskins
  • Violence, violence, violence,
  • Completely fucking ludicrous action sequences and car chases.
  • Rhona Mitra is hot action chick

Cons:

  • Sometimes ludicrous to the point of "What the fuck?"
  • South Africa does NOT double well for the Scottish Highlands.
  • Cringy cringy dance routine to the Fine Young Cannibals "Good Thing". The song chosen more for the bands name (irony) than for the quality of the song.
  • Goes from one ridiculous set piece to the other with little in the way of actual plotting.
  • Lots of great potential clashes (knight on horseback versus chick with guns for instance) never really get to their full potential.
Sloppy messy messy movie. But. If you are a fan of movies that are so fucking stupid that they're practially genius (Crank is a good yardstick) then this might be for you. Some genuine nastiness coupled with some genuine ridiculousness produces a big bloody mess that is never less than entertaining even if it is fucking retarded.

I know this an old post but that is probably the best description of that i've seen.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous with little or no plot but still an enjoyable watch in a way that only appeals to people who see too many bad movies.

Man I can't wait for Crank 2...
