Downey Jr: No Love for Bats

Robert Downey Jr, further cementing his burgeoning reputation as an all-round legend, went off on Batman during an interview to promote his new flick, Tropic Thunder.

'Iron Man' couldn't resist venting about the Dark Knight, and even went as far as to articulate that golden sentence which I'm sure many at Marvel have been chewing over for years: "Fuck D.C.".

I can't say I agree with him, and expect there's a smidgen of envy involved in this outburst, but still- you gotta love a guy who doesn't mince his words.

"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f—king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? Fuck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

I thought Iron Man was pretty good.

Obviously not in the same league as Dark Knight, but in fairness they're about as different as two movies about superheros could possibly get...

Iron man exceeded my expectations.
Dark Knight met them.

Therefore I guess I enjoyed Iron Man more.

By that reasoning it's entirely possible to enjoy a trip to the dentist more than fellatio, no?

And I'm not saying Iron Man was bad, just... average. I'm mostly just pissed off that RDJ seems to be complaining about a movie being 'too smart'. We don't need people publicly saying stuff like that. Especially not someone who's been in like 2 and a quarter truly respectable movies his entire career.

1. Some of my best blow jobs have been in the dentists chair.

2. Weird Science.

Richard III
Bowfinger
Wonder Boys
The Singing Detective
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Goodnight and Good Luck
A Scanner Darkly
A Guide To recognising your Saints
Charlie Bartlett
Zodiac

The Chemical Dustbin is a legend. Fie on you non-believers.

3. I'm pretty sure he was taking the piss. It seems quite in tone with the movie he's promoting at the moment.

1. That at least explains why so many dentists have such bad breath.

2. At least half of those films are shit, any enjoyment to be had is generally ironic. 'Respectable' was perhaps a poor term to use. 2 1/4 figure largely rhetorical anyway.

3. Well if he is, he is. If he's not, he's a sap. Maybe Isaac Hayes' daughter can enlighten us.

1. Touché salesman.

2. None of those films are shit. Some are lesser than others but none are shit. I've seen all but one and I've read the book of that one and its great so thats where my judgement of the movie comes from.

3. Indeed

it's funny that Robert Downey Jr. said the Dark Knight is too sophisticated when he himself tends to sound so sophisticated
