Ben Folds Five Reunion

The awesomeness that is Ben Folds Five is returning to the world for a once-off performance of their third & final album The Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Messner.

Let's face it: Ben Folds solo is good, but has nothing on the greatness of the original band. Folds' songs are always going to be great, but add frantic drums and smelly fuzzy bass and they get substantially more kickass. Reinhold Messner is an interesting album to play, and one that suits the 'play in it's entirety' approach. Hear it from the horse's mouth (Ben Folds, I mean):

"Of our three albums, this one brings back the most vivid memories. It was actually written to be one song of many movements, which is why there are motifs that appear throughout the album. That should make Reinhold a natural to be played front to back

The gig is part of Front To Back a series of concerts in which artists perform their seminal albums from, um, start to finish. Similar, I hear you say, to ATP's Don't Look Back series? Why, yes, but this one is more benifitting our American friends. It's set to take place on September 18th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina (where the band was formed).

So those of us on this side of the atlantic will have to make do with actually listening to the album. And what better place to start than with this humdinger:
