This is news which may have already been quite obvious to some, but there's no doubt that the more optimistic of us always had a glimmer of hope for a second Postal Service record. Unfortunately, Ben Gibbard has now effectively burst that bubble.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gibbard suggested that it's not going to happen, saying that "The anticipation of the second record has been a far bigger deal for everybody except the two of us." and slightly more conclusively "There never really was a plan to do a second album."
Noooooo!
Given that 2003's Give Up was one of the most inventive and beautifully realised albums of recent times, this is a goddamn tragedy. Death Cab is obviously a worthy project, and Jimmy Tamborello's Dntel has it's moments of greatness... but in my opinion neither act has ever reached the perfection of The Postal Service.
Lets hope Ben changes his mind...
