Smug Alert

Two songs from Irish film 'Once' have made the longlist for Oscar nomination. Dear God..

I have not seen the flick, so can't comment on the songs or movie- and naturally I'm all for the success of Irish films- but with Glen Hansard's already gargantuan ego, imagine the explosion of smugness that would ensue if he was to win an Oscar! Even to be actually nominated, having him playing at the ceremony would be nauseating. I can just picture him regaling Hollywood A-Listers from the stage at the Kodak Pavilion with crap, self-indulgent anecdotes about crisps, and generally doing his bullshit 'little oirish boy' act. Shudder. What's Randy Newman been up to this year? Surely he's had five or six songs worthy of a nod...

Randy made Rolling Stone's "Top 100" list of best songs for 2007 (at number 2):

... for "A Few Words In Defense of My Country," but no movies scored by him came out this year.

Thanks for the heads up, Susan.
