Pan's Labyrinth & Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro has finally signed on to direct Tolkien's The Hobbit.
This bodes well for the adaptation, which is already set to be guided by Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh in executive producer roles. The book will be split into two movies, both helmed by Del Toro, and shot in New Zealand with the Weta effects team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Don't hold your breath though, the preliminarily release dates aren't til late 2011 & 2012.
