Top 5 Joy Divison Covers

So for no reason whatsoever I decided to try and find out about Joy Division covers. So I Googled "Joy Division Covers" and top of the list was this site. As you can see there's a ridiculous amount of bands that have covered them one way or another whether live or in the studio. Now obviously I have neither heard nor want to hear the majority of the versions on that list but seeing as we haven't had a Top 5 in a while I thought we might as well make a list of the Top 5 Joy Division covers as made by a band who went to the trouble of going into the studio and recording it.

See the list after the jump.

5. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Nouvelle Vague

Nouvelle Vague's self-titled first album consists solely of Bossa Nova covers of New Wave and Post-Punk songs. Track 1 was their cover or Joy Divisions best known track.

The original (In true Joy Division/New Order style Love Will Tear Us Apart was a single and as such did not appear on an album. You can find it on the various compilations that are out there).

4. No Love Lost - LCD Soundsystem

Trust James Murphy to come up with a truly obscure (but great) Joy Division track to cover in his own style and then release it as a B-Side to the "All My Friends" single.

3. New Dawn Fades - Moby

Back during his hardcore techno days Moby released this cover as the B-Side to "Feeling So Real". The A-Side is pretty savage too.

2. Dead Souls - Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor consistently plays homage to his hero's by releasing this excellent interpretation on the Original Soundtrack to the Movie "The Crow".

1. Isolation - Therapy?

So simple that its genius. Take this catchy (but raw-as-hell) riff and Metal it up. Then groan out the lyrics in a manner that would make Curtis himself envious before screaming out the chorus. Like I said. Simple but genius.
