Most Unfairly ignored film of 2007 out on DVD: Eagle Vs Shark

As is typical with every single year, everybody flocks to see the latest piece of shit with a number at the end of the title that Hollywood churns out in the hope that we will all have forgotten just how wretched the earlier installments in that particular franchise were, and completely ignores (for the most part) the hidden gems that are made below the radar with actors you don't know, who are better than the ones you do know, with no budget and an abundance of humility and funky tunes. 2007 was no exception to that rule and saw mini masterpieces such as Control, Across the Universe and Half Nelson be pretty much ignored by the great unwashed.

While not my actual favourite movie of last year (although ranking quite highly) Eagle Vs Shark went some way to showing exactly what you can achieve with fuck-all budget and a lot of heart.
Check out the trailer here:

If you think that it looks like another tale of social misfits coming together to highlight the humour in the inanity of their lives รก la Napoleon Dynamite'd be right. Sort of. But then again, what the hell is wrong with that. Its always been the smaller character pieces that have made the best movies. Just check out Five Easy Pieces or Sideways. Plus this movie is from New Zealand and New Zealanders are way funnier than Yanks.

Here's a sampler of how retardedly funny this movie is.

Oh and while you're at it go and check out The Flight of the Conchords which is the recent tv show starring Eagle Vs Sharks Jemaine Clement.
