Oxegen Brings The Pain

I tempted fate, and fate has duly slapped me in the face. Lesson learned.

Only days after rejoicing that Oxegen may not steal too many bands from Electric Picnic this year, the dastards have gone ahead and got that 'lets prove Rob wrong' ball a-rolling.

Justice, Aphex Twin & Hot Chip have now been confirmed for the Punchestown festival. Damn. In addition to these acts, the lineup now boasts: The Chemical Brothers, Alabama 3, Interpol, Counting Crows, The Fratellis, The Raconteurs, Ian Brown, Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon & R.E.M.

Justice is a big loss, that could have been a highlight of the summer. At least in the case of Hot Chip we have a Tripod show to look forward to (see detailed post below).

Let's just hope this is the end of the booking war for this year..

To bring my two cents to the table (don't even know if that expression works), what we have here is a case of 'No big fucking deal guys'.
Let me explain:

Justice - Fair enough this would have been awesome

Aphex Twin - while this would also have been good Dick D James at gigs takes the DJ Shadow route to performing. Namely: Show up. Press play on his Laptop and look like he's creating right there. So I'll bring his albums to EP and listen to them in the campsite

Hot Chip - more fun missed but I'm not the biggest fan yet.

The Chemical Brothers - Been a bit inundated with CB lately so perhaps this won't be a bad thing. Plus the same band playing 2 years running at fests can be tiresome.

Alabama 3 - Um Sopranos theme song? I'll watch the DVD's thank you.

Interpol - You hate them Rob so I don't know why you're crying.

Counting Crows - Um. Shit!

The Fratellis - Um. Shitter!!

The Raconteurs - What-the fuck-ever

Ian Brown - Interesting but not savage

Kaiser Chiefs - Pfft!!!

Kings of Leon - Pfft!!!

R.E.M. - Admittedly a disappointment but they were never going to play Electric Picnic. I would have liked to see a solo gig however.

So I say: Bring 'em on Oxegen. EP has My Bloody Valentine and they had Sonic Youth and Beastie Boys last year so eat my balls Oxegen. Eat 'em.

It's really just the first three mentioned that I regard as a shame.

Mainly Justice.

Ah I see. Well Justice will be served yet.

See what I did there? Huh?

Wait. Another one.
Justice is a dish best served cold. Or is that Revenge. HMM!!!

To make myself feel better about living in gigless Rome I'm telling myself I would be bankrupt if I lived in Dublin. You've got non-stop gigs going on. It's so unfair.

If you'd been to Oxegen then you would pray for the wonders of gigless Rome.

I'm bitter as fuck now that I actually have to go back to that rathole. *Sigh*
