Free tickets to The Minutes Live in Crawdaddy

Because we love you all so much here and we love to give you free stuff for free we are going to give away some free stuff for...um...free.

The Minutes are a three piece from Dublin who have gigged all over the shop in various incarnations until forming their current band a year or so ago. They've just been signed to Universals digital platform with whom they are releasing their debut single “Harmonic” which is, as the old saying goes, catchy as fuck.

To celebrate this release of single-ness they will play Crawdaddy on the 7th of May and they've given us two tickets for the gig. So do the whole click here thing and enter your name and email address and whoever gets picked out of our top hat (of doom) will get to go there gratis.

Click here for their Myspace and below for some tuneage.

Conor Oberst's Solo Spot Explained

Being a big Bright Eyes fan, an eyebrow was raised at seeing Conor Oberst on the Electric Picnic bill. Bright Eyes is essentially 'The Conor Oberst Show', so a solo spot seemed odd. I was expecting a one-man-and-a-guitar kinda thing, but that is apparently not the case.

Oberst has in fact recorded a solo album, backed up in a Bright Eyes fashion by a group of his mates (including M. Ward & Rilo Kiley's Jason Boesel) who are being called the 'Mystic Valley Band'. It's this setup that Picnic goers will be seeing.

The album, which I can only assume that it's to be titled Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, was recorded in Mexico, and produced by Oberst with help from Now It's Overhead's Andy LeMaster. It's due to released on August 4th.

It seems a lot of their tracks are available to check out on youtube (click), but for mp3 tasters and a full album tracklisting check out the read more...

Here are two tracks from Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band's performance at SXSW last month.

CSS Lose A Bassist

Bass player Ira Trevisan (she's the one on the far right) has amicably left electro-rockers CSS. The band's drummer Adriano is taking over Bass duties, and they'll take a session-drummer friend with them on tour.

So presumably this won't affect their upcoming tour, which hits the Academy on May 7th.

Full band statement in the read more...

CSS is now a 5-piece!

CSS announce today that bass player Ira Trevisan has left the group for personal reasons. CSS drummer Adriano will take over the bass duties, and live the band will work with a session drummer (a friend of the band) from now on. The band said "It will be feroche!"

Talking about her departure from the band Ira said "I decided to move forward and dedicate more of my time to fashion and other projects. Just a big change of priorities, as I will never stop playing music. I am also a bit worried about climate change. People should care more and do something about it. I decided to fly less. CSS will always be in my heart. They said goodbye to their bass player, but they won a new life time fan. In health and sickness, in happiness and so forth. Blah blah blah, so help us God. "

CSS' second album will be released in the UK in July. They are back in the UK in May for a string of UK dates on the MTV Spanking New Music tour. More news on both the album and upcoming live dates to be announced soon.
