Ladies & gentlemen, the baby preacher:
Danish Cartoonists Still Not Safe

Danish police today announced that they have arrested a number of people suspected of plotting to murder Kurt Westergaard, the Danish cartoonist responsible for creating what was possibly the most controversial image in the recent 'Prophet Mohammad' furore.
The image (right) caused riots in the Middle East & Asia resulting in the deaths of at least fifty people. These morons seem to protest and burn effigies at the drop of a hat, so it comes as a bit of a surprise to me that Westergaard is still under threat from extremists over a year on.
A statement on the arrest is due to be released by Danish authorities later today, and it will be interesting to see what happens. While my initial thought is along the lines of 'I hope they get the book thrown at them', it occurs to me that it might be a better idea to effectively turn the other cheek, and treat the crime as what it is rather than take the context into account.
Not that I want to promote leniency for this sort of carry-on, but with such potential for insanity in the area of 'Holy War', we have to remember not to get too impassioned about these kind of things, and instead try to approach it rationally & sensibly.
And hopefully someday everyone will realize that that's a much better solution than the alternative.
St Patrick's Day Has Moved

.. But don't worry, it's just the Jeebus-y stuff.
Apparently the Church has a beef with anything that might take attention away from Easter, even if it's something as pious & spiritual as a nationwide piss-up. So, in their infinite wisdom, they have decreed that this year Paddy's Day shall be held on March 15th instead of 17th, thus moving it outside the Easter week.
The funny thing is that all the broo-ha-ha of parades etc will still go ahead on the 17th, making the whole thing a blissful mockery. This is a great example of how irrelevant the church is these days, with even state sponsored festivities paying them no mind.
So which is the real Paddy's day? It doesn't matter- the 15th is a Saturday, so the whole country is gonna be pissed anyway. Woo Hoo!
Jeebus-Freaks Keep Piling On The Crazy
The scumbags over at Westboro Baptist Church continue to persist with their particularly obnoxious and offensive brand of crazy. The morons whose slogan inspired the timeless internet classic 'God Hates Fags' are planning to stage protests and generally raise hell (how ironic) at Heath Leger's funeral. One would think they'd have learned their lesson after being fined close to 11 million dollars for their last funeral escapade.
What The Hell...
Is this for real? Crazy, crazy people..

Pope Says No To Guitars
![]()
From Phantom.ie:
The Pope is calling for a dramatic overhaul of music in the Vatican, saying he's sick of sub-standard 20th century fare.
The Holy See says he wants to see the end of the Folk Mass and a return to more traditional sacred tunes, and wants to widen the use of Gregorian chant and Baroque music.
Pope Benedict also wants his preferences to be taken in across the Catholic Church.
In an address to the bishops and priests of St Peter's Basilica last month, he said there needed to be "continuity with tradition" in their prayers and music.
What a killjoy! Like mass isn't boring enough already. What about bringing the church into the 21st century? What's next: Pope outlaws fun? Pope says Catholics 'not feeling guilty enough'? Or just go all out for heresy and reinstate the Spanish Inquisition? Just for fun. I like the old Pope better. He traveled a lot, played football, had laser eyes...
