Whats the song in the Watchmen trailer?

Those of you saw the trailer for Watchmen (aka The no doubt disappointing adaptation of the greatest comic ever) may be wondering where and when they heard the song running through it. Some of you will remember Batman & Robin (aka the worst comic book movie of all time) and some of you may remember its theme song "The End is the Beginning is the End" by The Smashing Pumpkins (aka the last great Pumpkins song).

In a move that had to have been a dig at the afore-mentioned celluloid disaster the creators of Watchmen have used the companion piece "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" which is prety much a remix of the first song. Below is presented both versions of the song. The instrumental versions of the song "The Ethers Tragic" and "The Guns of Love Disastrous" as well as the Watchmen trailer for those of you who missed it the first time.

I saw the trailer prior to Dark Knight, and it reminded me how much I love this tune....totally hadn't thought of it in ages, prior to hearing it in the trailer Saturday night..

I don't know, the trailer looked pretty impressive. I'd give Zack Snyder the benefit of the doubt with this. He did an amazing job at bringing Frank Miller's 300 to life (albeit Frank shared directing duties, but still). I think he just might do it justice.

Two things
1. Frank didn't share directing duties on 300. That was on Sin City only.
2. 300 as a comic was pure violence and testosterone with very little substance. The movie was pretty much the comic brought to life which was admirable. From the Watchmen trailer its clear that Snyder is already using that fast-slow-fast action style that he used in 300 which will be an absolute pain in the tits if he overuses it as he's likely to do. Watchmen is NOT an action story and shouldn't be injected with it just so muppets can stay attentive.
They did the same thing with V for Vendetta.

Yeah, you're right. You should probably make broad judgments on this movie based on a 2 minute trailer and your own biases. Since doing so is what defines the jaded, head-up-his-ass, geek asshole.

Touché

I can understand Bob's concerns, but it is a little too early to be writing the flick off.

Sure the hyper-stylised action thing wouldn't suit for Watchmen, but it's arguably the perfect thing for a promotional trailer.

What reassures me is the fact that Snyder is reportedly being incredibly anal about sticking to the comic book, and there's no way someone could read that and think 'Oh yeh, this totally reminds me of The Matrix'. It's a talky one, but that doesn't play so well in trailers.

As opposed to the guy who trawls internet blogs to post abuse anonymously.
If you read my post again the operative words are IF and SHOULDN'T.
I say IF he OVERUSES it which nobody is saying he will do.
I also say that it SHOULDN'T be injected with action which doesn't necessarily mean that it will be.
God. Its like I type this for nothing. Honestly.

I don't know, kiddies. Watchmen is slated for a March release, a month which is essentially pet sematary for unloved pets.

Looks amazing to me. The song really fit well with the trailer as well.

Are you going to feel very silly if the movie does turn out to be shit?

the trailer is visually astonishing and really kicks ass... the comic book is over 30 years old and really needs some modern action style! if zack manages to bring watchmen to the new millenium and also manages to stay true to the originial stlye and story (which absolutly looks like he did) this movie is giong to rule!

I am a huge comic book nerd and also think that a movie never should get to far away from its first presentation but I also read the watchmen comic ans simply think it is way to slowly paced for todays cinema stlye!

But I also loved V for Vendetta...

Not too be pedantic but if Watchmen was made over 30 years ago it would mean it was written in the mid-70's which is in fact 10 years before its written and set.

And I completely agree with you about the action pieces. Why should we be made to sit through hours and hours of no action. I think they should go back in and put a climactic sword fight with ninja's into the end of the Godfather just so there's action in it.
Seriously how can you possibly do a movie of Watchmen without a high speed car chase on the side of a skyscraper.
Make it so Mr Znyder

It's silly to take such meaningless things so seriously.

I think its silly to be arguing about it at all. Listen, i will say that i have only heard whispers of this comic. Barely know what its about and to tell ya the truth that most likely goes for over half of the population that will see this preview. What they'll see is a kick ass trailer with a kick ass song and see it as...kick ass. Go figure...

But ya know, in truth. No one may ever see it. They're arguing over the movie rights with some dumb shits that bought 'em years ago and didn't even touch 'em. If the dumb shits win...we're all screwed on this whole 'blog' thing because then we have to watch their, i'm sure, much lamer version.

You mean if Watchmen turns out to be shit then our blog will fall apart.

Oh shit!!!!!

Let's chill people. The film could be great, it could be awful. Whatever happens, anything that will bring attention to the novel has to be a good thing. Nothing will take away from the greatness of the original:) I for one think the trailer is awesome and the Pumpkins song suits perfectly.

I saw the trailer for Australian audiences (maybe it's just a different edit) but to be honest it crapped all over this one. Maybe not as well done musically, but it had far more speech in it than this trailer. Looked absolutely awesome, albeit confusing. Probably because I haven't read it.

Ok I have no education, nor any knowledge about the entertainment or film industry, but I certainly know when i am reading a blog written by a complete TOOL...and EvilBoob(bob) your a fucking TOOL!!!

The argument i would like to bring forth, and i say this with no knowledge or education what so ever pertaining to the film and entertainment industry; is that evil bob is a tool and his knowledge of anything has become worth less then a vague memory of a turd i shit out maybe 2 years ago. if thats not specific enough for you indulgent then just let me put it in lemans terms. bob your a tool.

So relevant it had to be said twice. You shouldn't be so dismissive about your turds though. Some of the shits I've had have been fucking epic. Well worth keeping in memory
