Damn these Irish Summers, they show no mercy. Electric Picnic was lucky to escape unscathed from our crappy weather, but the A Day In The Life festival featuring Kraftwerk, Soulwax and others has not been so fortunate.
Set to take place in Wicklow's awesome Luggala Estate, excessive rainfall has made it impossible to prepare the venue in time, and the whole event has been moved to Kilmainham Hospital.
What does this mean? Well, seeing as ticket prices included the fare for a 'magic bus' to bring punters to Luggala, anyone attending will now have €20 refunded on the day of the show. Those who simply decide not to go at all can get a full refund from the usual places.
As for what parts of the show will be affeceted by the change of venue, we don't quite know. The original plan of having the performances in a "specially constructed tent structure" is still on the cards, but it's hard to see how the Body & Soul Area (which would have been a major selling point of the original concept) will still go ahead, at least in a manner akin to what Electric Picnicers know and love.
On a positive note, Vaudeville Circus troupe Lucent Dossier have been added to the lineup following the great success of their recent Picnic appearances. This may prove to be interesting, as I have heard nothing but great things said of these guys. Check out footage of them in the readmore.

POD press release:POD Concerts announce change of venue for A DAY IN THE LIFE with Kraftwerk due to adverse weather conditions.
Pod Concerts regret to announce that due to extreme weather conditions causing the river at Lough Dan to burst its banks on the Luggala Estate, Co. Wicklow today, the Kraftwerk concert, scheduled for the 13th September will now be held in the grounds of Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin.
With adverse weather conditions forecasted for the forthcoming week making production and build of site impossible, Promoter John Reynolds declared;
"I am personally deeply disappointed that this event can not take place on the Luggala Estate which is one of the most awe inspiring and breathtaking locations in Ireland. However due to the unprecedented rainfall and the nature of the site being a natural valley, the subsequent water logging conditions, have made it impossible to prepare Luggala for a concert for the general public."
Tickets for this event, which will see Godfathers of Electronic Music Kraftwerk performing an incredibly special two hour long set, will still be valid for Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin on 13th September, a unique and historical city centre venue, which played host to the hugely successful Leonard Cohen, Iggy Pop and Morrissey concerts earlier this year. Because of the nature of this site, it considerable less vulnerable to flooding and such adverse weather conditions. The ticket price for A DAY IN THE LIFE included a bus transfer to and from Luggala estate, Co. Wicklow, concert holders will now be refunded the bus fare of €20 on presentation of their ticket on the day of the show. Alternatively a full refund is available to ticket holders from their original point of purchase, for those who do not wish to attend Kraftwerk at Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Though the venue has changed A DAY IN THE LIFE will remain at intimate capacity of 4,999 in a specially installed tented structure. Door times will remain the same opening at 3pm.

A Day In The Life
Today's Irish Times carried some more info about the upcoming Day In The Life festival which Kraftwerk will headline.
Also on the bill for the one day fest in Wickow's Luggala estate are Soulwax, The Jimmy Cake, Boxcutter, Comtron, Dark Room Notes.
The ad's headline reads Kraftwerk + Guests, so it's unclear as to whether there are more to come on the bill, but thusfar it's pretty damned good...
Kraftwerk For Wicklow
Jim Carroll's got the scoop- Kraftwerk are to play Wicklow's Luggala estate (above) for POD's A Day In The Life festival.
The festival (which nearly took place in June with Morrissy headlining) is to take place on September 13th, with tickets priced 89.50 to go on sale Wednesday. Capacity is reportedly only 5000, so get em quick. The support acts are bound to be good, and Unarocks reckons it'll also feature a Body & Soul area, which Electric Picnic goers will already be fans of. The estate is amazing, and is apparently where Michael Jackson lived during his sojourn in Ireland. Sweet.

Kling Klang speak
Kling Klang speak about being sued by Kraftwerk.
In a statement they released they said.
“In Cologne on Sunday 6th April the UK band Kling Klang were issued with a document by representatives of Messrs. Ralf Hutter & Florian Schneider of the German band Kraftwerk. The document is an order to cease and desist using the name "Kling Klang" as the name of the group. Since Messrs. Hutter & Schneider own the single-word trademark "Klingklang" (the name of Kraftwerk's studio, and publishing/merchandising companies), they feel that use of the two-word term "Kling Klang" as a band name is an infringement of their trademark rights.
“The UK band Kling Klang arrived at the name by way of an onomatopoeic reference to a guitar improvisation of binary structure, and were under the impression that "klang" is a German word for sound, with "kling klang" meaning "bell-sound" (similar to "ding dong" in English). The term appears to be in popular usage in more than one language, including Swedish, and the band in no way thought they would be infringing upon the trademark rights of Messrs. Hutter and Schneider in utilizing this term as a name for the group.
“Kling Klang holds Kraftwerk in the highest esteem as musicians and hope to resolve this matter quickly and amicably.”
I hope again this can be sorted out between the bands with out having to go to the courts. And keep your eyes peeled after this year when Kiling Klang release their new album.

Kraftwerk threatening to sue Kling Klang
Kraftwerk are threatening to sue Kling Klang the five piece kraut-punk band from Liverpool who are signed to Mogwai's Rock Action label
Kling Klang are said to gotten their name inspired by the Klingklang studio Kraftwerk own. While supporting Portishead in Cologne last Sunday (6 Apr)Kling Klang received a fax from a promoter associated with Kraftwerk threatening to sue if Kling Klang don’t change their name.

All that Kling Klang themselves have said so far is "They want to keep adherent to the facts and not express an opinion for now"
Heavy stuff i think you will agree but Krauftwerk love their studio even packing it up and taking it with them on their 1981 world tour.
I myself wish Kling Klang all the best in the battle and i hope that things work out for the best. They will soon be back in the studio to record the follow up to the really good Esthetik of Destruction (go buy it) which is set to come out on Rock action by the end of the year.
Krautrock Drummer Dies
Klaus Dinger, one of the early and founding members of three classic Krautrock bands, Kraftwerk, Neu! and La Dusseldorf died on March 20th. For those of you who don't feel that modern dance music owes more than a life debt to these musical pioneers then go and pick up a copy of Kraftwerks "Autobahn" or Neu!'s self titled albums.

Covers part 2
A while back I wrote about a few different cover versions I thought weere good. Bands putting a different spin on the original. It can be found here
since then ive heard some new good ones and remembered some classic that i can't believe i forgot so i present cover versions part 2 (in the read more)
First up we have Big black (in case you don't know Big Black was a noise rock band founded in Chicago, Illinois, United States, that was active between 1982 and 1987. They were headed by singer, lyricist, guitarist, and co-songwriter Steve Albini) doing a cover of Kraftwerk's "The Model" (or "Das Model") here's the original.

In Big Black's version the synths are replaced with that sick bass sound and high pitched guitar squeals to great effect.
