Brad Weber drummer for Caribou has Re-Injured (broke) his wrist fall from a ladder prior to a scheduled Caribou show at Washington, DC's Rock and Roll Hotel , he was still recovering from an injury suffered back in February. Caribou canceled the gig that night, but Weber will be out of commission for four to six weeks, according to Caribou's publicist,The band is flying in a possible replacement and still pondering the fate of those many upcoming live engagements , lets hope they have it all sorted out for their Whelan's gig in May as well as ATP vs Pitchfork.

the crow

Subtle have leaked another track off their soon to be released album ExitingARM. The track in question is called "the crow" and can be found at the bottom of this post. A while back i posted the first track they relased from their new opus called "Unlikely Rock Shock" which you can listen to here , "Unlikely Rock Shock" follows the "Crow" on the album, so listen in order and get a sense of at least one transition.
. Also, i hear there's a 20,000-word comic book that doseone illustrated/wrote that follows the album's narrative. Keep watch at the band's site.

Neil Aspinall Dies

Beatles road manager and long-term head of Apple-corp Neil Aspinall has died.

No Standing Hangover Mix

Volume 10 of the egoeccentric Hangover mixes comes courtesy of No Standing's guitar maestro Chris O'Connor.
No Standing have just completed recording with Ivan Jackman at Silverline Studios, and having heard a taster, I can confirm that their new stuff is something to be looked forward to. The band seem to have further pushed their boundaries and produced their best material to date.
April 4th gives you a chance to check out No Standing live, as they hit the Button Factory for stage two of the Emergenza Festival.

Neon Love Leaves The Shaw

Thursday nights in Dublin about to become a lot less neon, as tomorrow sees Neon Love's last night in the Bernard Shaw.
The weekly electro night brought joy and dancyness to the pub for more than a year, but is sadly set to move on from tomorrow. What the future holds for Thursdays & Neon Love, we do not know... but you're all guaranteed at least one more night of madness as Neon Heroes from the club's history descend on the Shaw tomorrow night.
Philth (Backlash), Dave Salacious (Family), Trashed DJs, Chemistry DJs, & Antics DJs will all be providing entertainment from 8 til the wee hours, with Beer for E3.50, Buckfast for E12 & Shots E3.
As always with Neon Love, admission is free! What more of an excuse do you need?
Tis a shame to see the end of such a great club, but I'm sure this is not the end for the NL crew.
Best of luck to them all from egoeccentric!
In Keeping With The Last Post...
First Casualties Of The Sub-Prime Market
The implosion of the sub-prime mortgage sector in the US is largely being credited for the financial down-turn we're seeing in Global markets.
The Irish Government are, as usual, asking us all to tighten our belts (while they add extra notches to theirs); but while we worry, the real damage of the current financial climate is already being seen- in the US.
Los Angeles has recently seen a number of shanty towns spring up due to the large number of houses being repossessed. This is pretty outrageous for the 'Richest Nation In The World'. Considering how much has already been spent on the war in Iraq, and how much more is likely to be spent in the future, this seems even more of a tragedy.
Check out this shocking BBC report:
Thanks to the watchful Oz for the heads up.
Free Dr Pepper for everyone in the USA courtesy of G N'R

For anybody who doesn't know, Chinese Democracy, the new (lets not say 'new' actully, lets say 'next') album from Guns N'Roses, has been slated for release since sometime in 1999. Its been rescheduled for every few months since then and there's still no sign of it.
Dr. Pepper however are so convinced that it won't be out by the end of the year that in a genuine bout of publicity stunt craziness they have promised every single person in the United States a free Dr Pepper if it does.
Personally I hope they do release it just for the fact that this rancid rancid drink will no doubt be put out of business by having to cater to the 300 Million+ citizens of the US for free. Please God please. Oh and I've heard the album and it ain't all that anyway. Which is a nice way of saying that as much as I want to like it, it sucks.

Sigur Rós and MBV together in the one place is something to look forward to but no bloody sign of Cornelius which was really blowing my skirt up seeing as I haven't seen him since Witnness 2002. Perhaps there will be more juicy stuff in the further announcements but I don't predict a quick sell-out this Friday.
They seemed to have changed the design of everything as well so I suspect this will be the last time you see the sun image above used in any Leccy Piccy stuff. In fact, I feel redundant already.
Tickets are gettable here.

Electric Picnic tickets: A snip at only 240 YoYo's!!!

Although the tickets and line-up were already supposed to have been announced by now. And even though Oxegen has, for the second year in a row, pinched a large portion of the deadly bands. And despite the fact that the line-up has gotten steadily weaker since the original weekend in 2005, I still have high hopes for this years Electric Picnic. Let's hope the lineup justifies the 240 euro price tag!
Seeing My Bloody Valentine is most definitely a plus point but unless I need a new pair of trousers when they finally announce the line-up tomorrow evening, then I will be most displeased to see the beginning of the inevitable decline of great potential.
Pessimistic? Perhaps. But remember. A Pessimist is never disappointed.
Electric Picnic 2008 takes place in on the 30th & 31st August and 1st September in Stradbally Laois. One or two bands including My Bloody Valentine have already been announced but the first proper announcement will come tomorrow evening and tickets will go on sale this friday priced E240. Gettem here.
Coincidence or is somebody fucking with me?

You ever get the kind of experience where you haven't heard a song for a very long time and then you hear it everywhere. A lot.
Well this thing happened to me for the Songs "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush and "No Diggity" by Blackstreet. Over the course of various radio shows and VH1 lists I heard them at least 5 times each over the last week.
Is there something about these songs? Is it their anniversaries? Is there a Blackstreet/Kate Bush revival underway? Is there some cosmic significance to the two of them? Anyway. The coincimentalness of it all has served to remind me that one of these songs has always been awesome and one I used to hate and now reluctantly admit is a classic of its genre. I'll let you figure out which is which. Click below to be reminded for yourselves

Video Of The Day
Spent a lot of the weekend listening to Elliott Smith's eponymous second album which is so damn beautiful, I'm gonna have Smith on the brain for weeks.
To drag you all in with me, here's his performance of Miss Misery at the Oscars. Oh how far away from Celine Dion... :
I might be jumping to conclusions but....
LIARS have pulled out of both their ATP related performances this May, firstly at the London Astoria show on the 14th May featuring BATTLES and FUCK BUTTONS, and also their position on the lineup of the Explosions in The Sky ATP festival. This is due to them securing the main support slot for Radiohead's forthcoming American tour which starts on the 5th of May.
Things are not looking well for their gig in vicar street with battles and redneck manifesto on the 15th of May but that said even with out LIARS the line up of battles and redneck manifesto is still an awesome one. Will keep you informed as i find out more
Grindhouse comes to Dublin

More than a year after its state-side release that the poster above suggests. In fairness I always knew that Grindhouse was going to be a flop. The concept was a little bit too out there and "Nudge Nudge" for mass audiences (especially US ones) to digest satisfactorily but having been lucky enough to have seen the proper version of it I can tell you that its a hell of a lot more satisfying to see the proper version than it is to see the extended versions of "Planet Terror" and "Deathproof" seperately.
Anyway, despite the fact that the full version of the movie didn't get shown theatrically over here, Tarantino and Rodriguez are taking it on a roadtrip and it will screen in the IFI on the 18th and 19th of April. There are many of you who will have seen the split versions of the movies and will say "whats the point?" to this but there are those of us who know the difference between watching a movie and watching a movie as it was intended and it is for those people that the screenings are intended.
What you will also see in the full version is a series of "fake" trailers directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), Eli Roth (Hostel), Rob Zombie (um...Rob Zombie) and this non-existent classic below directed by Rodriguez himself which are almost as good as the main features
Oh and the directors won't actually be there but hey what else is new?

New animated video for WHY? for the song "Song of the Sad Assassin" off there new album Alopecia. The video was directed by animator Mike L. Mayfield ("Family Guy", "American Dad").
Hangover Mix Vol.9: Delorentos

Delorentos like making mixtapes. So much so that their contribution to the egoeccentric hangover mixes is a two-parter- woo hoo!
Delorentos are currently on tour, having just played a massively well-recieved set at SXSW. They'll be hitting Italy for some dates at the start of April before returning to these shores to play FM 104's 'The Gig' on April 6th in the Olympia. Also on the bill for this show are The Blizzards, The Coronas, Aslan and Television Room- with all proceeds going to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

There Will Be Vader
Apparently there's room for an entire genre of 'Star Wars + Something else' mash-ups. This one features Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood as Darth Vader. It doesn't have the guffaw factor of this one, but one or two scenes do work rather well:
(Contains spoilers of both movies.. as if you haven't seen Star Wars..)

Idiot Of The Day

From The Irish Times:
AMSTERDAM: A shoplifter looking to make a quick getaway from a dutch supermarket after stealing a packet of meat left police a crucial piece of evidence- his 12-year-old son.
In his haste, the thief (45) made a solo dash to his car. Police in the southern town of Kerkrade said they contacted the thief via the boy, but he had refused to return and collect his son.
The man told officers to get hold of the youngster's mother instead. However, he turned himself in yesterday.
Video Of The Day
Is the bitchin first single from REM's new album, Accelerate.
This is Supernatural Superserious:
Wolfman Pics= Sweet

I friggin love horror movies.
Particular favorites of mine are the old Universal monster flicks (you know, the classic Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy etc). I remember hearing about Universal deciding to re-jig the genre with a big budget, all-emcompassing Van Helsing, and thinking: 'this could be the greatest movie ever made' (after, of course, The Monster Squad). Anyone unlucky enough to have watched Van Helsing will know how wrong I was, so I must try my hardest not to get too excited about this flick.
Universal are attempting another update, but this time sticking to one monster- The Wolfman.
Benico Del Toro is set to portray the titular beast, taking on a role immortalised by the legend that was Oliver Reed. The new film is written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven- cool!), and to be directed by Joe Jackson (The Rocketeer- cooler!).
But as we all know, in a movie like this, 90% is gonna rely on your money shot- the monster himself. Werewolves have appeared on the silver screen on many occasions, and are often... well, stupid (pictured above). So in a very smart move, the movie's producers have hired Rick Baker, the genius behind this particular monster's previous best screen incarnation- An American Werewolf in London- to handle the effects.
How has he done?
Click below to find out.

Not bad, Mr. Baker, not bad.
The movie is currently shooting, with a release date set for May 2009.

Covers part 2

A while back I wrote about a few different cover versions I thought weere good. Bands putting a different spin on the original. It can be found here
since then ive heard some new good ones and remembered some classic that i can't believe i forgot so i present cover versions part 2 (in the read more)
First up we have Big black (in case you don't know Big Black was a noise rock band founded in Chicago, Illinois, United States, that was active between 1982 and 1987. They were headed by singer, lyricist, guitarist, and co-songwriter Steve Albini) doing a cover of Kraftwerk's "The Model" (or "Das Model") here's the original.
Kraftwerk - The Model
In Big Black's version the synths are replaced with that sick bass sound and high pitched guitar squeals to great effect.
MP3>Big Black - The Model
Next up I have Hot chip doing a cover of the original pimp himself Marvin Gaye all time classic Sexual Healing.
Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing
Now im not sure that the hot chip version will have the same effect in the bedroom department but it still sounds good.
MP3>Hot Chip - Sexual Healing
next we have 5 street walkers with a record contract or better know as the pussycat dolls being covered by xiu xiu , this is a bit of a weird one and as much as it pains me here is the original.
The Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha
I much perfer xiu xiu version.
MP3>Xiu Xiu - don't cha
next we have Bonnie "Prince" Billy doing a cover of the real talking R. Kelly. the song in question is World's Greatest (I had never heard it before either).
R. Kelly - The Worlds Greatest
Will Oldam changes this RnB ditty into a country song as only he can and I have to say I love it.
MP3>Bonnie "Prince" Billy - World's Greatest
Next is Cansei de Ser Sexy putting their spin on the Grizzly Bear tune knife. I think you know what to expect so first the original
Grizzly Bear - Knife
and now the cover.
MP3>Cansei de Ser - the knife
Finally we have TV on the Radio covering a Daniel Johnston tune, one of my favorite Daniel Johnston, while his own version is raw and is really heartfelt the TV on the radio version really show off Daniels writing ability
MP3>Daniel Johnston - walking the cow
MP3>TV on the Radio - walking the cow

Arthur C. Clarke Dies

All doom & gloom today- legendary science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has passed away at the age of 90.
Clarke was possibly best known for inspiring & co-scripting Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (which is possibly the greatest film ever made). An adaptation of Clarke's other highly regarded work Rendezvous with Rama was recently announced- with David Fincher set to take the helm. So it's quite likely that soon we'll have Clarke to thank for not one but two sci-fi masterpieces.
Kudos.

Anthony Minghella Dies

Oscar winning director Anthony Minghella has died aged 54. Minghella was well known for films such as The Talented Mr Ripley, Cold Mountain, and won the Best Director Oscar in 1997 for The English Patient.
According to reports Minghella suffered a brain hemorrhage after routine surgery on his neck. His last completed film was an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith's The No. One Ladies Detective Agency for the BBC, which is due to be broadcast this week.

I'm not really a fan of Antony Hegarty- Antony & the Johnsons don't really do anything for me- but his new project Hercules & Love Affair seems pretty good. It's a million miles from 'the Johnsons', with funky bass and disco beats.
Here's the slightly odd video for Blind:
Mills Gets £24.3 Million To Go Away

Heather Mills (right), has managed to squeeze £24.3 million out of Paul McCartney. The former Beatle had offered gold digging 'model' a fairly damned respectable £15 mil, but the crazy bitch threw it back in his face and demanded £125 million instead.
So the whole process was dragged publicly before the courts, a scenario Mills was more than happy with as it afforded her more opportunities to shite on for the cameras about how great she is. Which is exactly what she did as soon as the settlement was made- rushed out to further throttle her dignity by making sweeping statements to the press about how thrilled she was with the 'incredible result' and about how it's great news for 'all the charities that i obviously plan on helping'.
Her elated demeanor differed slightly from her reported behavior inside the courtroom, where she apparently threw a glass of water over McCartney's lawyer, who emerged from the court with wet hair. When asked about what happened, Mills laughed (manically, I'd imagine) and said that the lawyer had been “baptised in court”.
Classy.
Its only a shame that nobody thought to throw water on Heather Mills when this whole debacle started, as the chances are she would have melted.
Budding filmmakers? Trent has a challenge for you
Got this in my email from the NIN mailing list which linked me to the vid below. Sounds like a pretty interesting idea. Check out the text after the jump.
Nine Inch Nails is pleased to announce the expansion of the Ghosts project into the visual world. The band has teamed up with YouTube to host a "film festival" around Ghosts. The concept is for you to take whatever tracks you feel inspired by and create what you feel should accompany them visually. You will be able to see all of the submissions, and a team (including Trent) will be sorting through them and setting aside ones they feel are exceptional. Eventually (within a couple of months?) we hope to present a virtual "film festival" with Trent and some special guests presenting selections of your work.
"This isn't a contest and you don't win elaborate prizes - it's meant to be an experiment in collaboration and a chance for us to interact beyond the typical one-way artist-to-fan relationship. We've discussed some interesting ways this could go, including multiple installments of the online "film festivals," to broadcast TV specials, to a one-time live performance of the entire Ghosts record with your visuals involved. It really depends on how this progresses and develops.
We are all very much looking forward to what you come up with, and hope you enjoy the experience. Visit http://www.youtube.com/ninofficial for information on how to participate".

Movies that should not be made

I realise I have just posted twice about Cracked.com but I pissed myself too hard at this article and this pic in particular. They basically challenged their readers to come up with the worst ideas for movies ever photoshop up a poster. The funny thing is that I can see the Bert and Ernie movie with Will Ferrell and John C Reilly being made but the one I have provided is the one that made me laugh out loud.
The full article is here.

Butterfly Explosion tonight in Whelans

Just a reminder that Butterfly Explosion have their triumphant comeback tonight in Whelans. Despite the Fire in The Village last night which caused the evacuation of the neighbouring venue the gig will take place tonight. Doors open at 7.30 and the first band on will be at 8. Make sure you get there for that time because the first band on is the excellent Lights who are well worth checking out
Fire in The village
Up to 800 people were evacuated from a Dublin city centre nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning after a fire broke out on the premises.
The blaze happened just inside the door of The Village nightclub on Wexford Street on the south side of the city at about half-past-one this morning.
A number of surrounding buildings were also evacuated, Whelans being one of them.
Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and the Gardai sealed off the area.
There were no injuries and the street has now re-opened to traffic.
Gardai say the fire was not malicious and believe an electrical fault was to blame.
Guess Sunday karaoke is off , also im taking that the upcoming gigs in the village are going to be moved if anyone know anything let us know.
*************************UPDATE****************************************
only minor damage was caused and the village is open with business as usual

Sexman Reviews 10,000 B.C.
Hes back again and with a new haircut.
He gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars (calling it “a pretty good film”). Sexman criticizes it for there not being “enough gore” or action, but praises the unexpected humor and the plot. “But if you have a girlfriend and stuff, you should take her to this.”
