In the ever growing maze of irony that is the lives of Metallica, their new album Death Magnetic has leaked online 10 days before its due out in shops. While early reports have suggested "an unmitigated work of turgid shite" The Guardian, "Self-indulgent to the point of being cancerous" MOJO, "Everything that defines Rock N'Roll through any age. Fuck Led Zeppelin" Metal Hammer*, the degree to which Metallica's star has fallen is apparently clear through the words of drummer Lars Ulrich and self-styled Biggest cunt in rock: "from here, we're golden,if this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy." Pity you weren't saying that ten years ago when you drove Napster into the ground instead of embracing the future like a good little muppet.
