Extra Life is an experimental band from Brooklyn formed in 2007.They combines elements of Medieval chant, metallic hardcore, dark neofolk, abstract modernism and lush pop.The band is lead by guitarist/vocalist Charlie Looker(member of Ocrilim, ex-Zs and ex-Dirty Projectors).
The band will be releasing its second album Made Flesh, on LOAF Recordings in March 2010, the new album is said to be

Both more accessible and more severe than their previous work, Made Flesh extends from fragile acoustic ballads to industrial symphonic assaults and deepens the band's signature heaviness while also exploring more psychedelic studio treatments, electronic textures and synths.

enjoy the mp3 download of their song, "Black Hoodie," taken from a limited edition split 12" with Nat Baldwin, which will be re-recorded/re-imagined for Made Flesh

BEAK> were formed in January 2009 by three Bristol musicians, Billy Fuller(of Fuzz Against Funk), Matt Williams (of Team Brick) and Geoff Barrow (of Portishead).

The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in SOA Studio’s, Bristol.

Washington, DC band Pree are led by May Tabol (formerly of Le Loup).Below is "In the Parlor" the debut Single which is taken from there soon to be released debut album A Chopping Block(March - The Kora Records). May Tabol vocals remind me of the trembles of Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse while the music is a haunting hypnotic folky affair. Also check out the track "Lack of Flight" and their myspace

"In the Parlor" - Pree

The album also features the talents of John Thayer and Susan Hsu of Exit Clov, Tom Hnatow of These United States, Vanessa Degrassi of Ash Lovely, and Randy Scope of Donny Hue and the Colors/The Sleeping Secrets. Mixed by Devin Ocampo (of Beauty Pill) and mastered by Randy Scope. Pree's lineup now includes Chris Dewitt on drums, Vanessa Degrassi on mandolin and flute, and David Barker on electric guitar.
