Irish duo You're Only Massive recently decamped to Germany to work on new material, and have started the ball rolling with a cracking single, Under the Neon. This is a performance of the afforementioned song live from H8R H8R in Berlin last monday. The track is performed with just vocals, drum pads (SPD-S, yummy), and a distortion pedal; and it comes across very well- with a great little hook on the chorus and the vocal tying in perfectly with the synth. It seems Deutchland is treating these folks well.

Dot Dash
On Friday August 15th (Tomorrow) You're Only Massive and Queen Kong will present DOT-DASH, a split 12" silver vinyl album (fancy i dont think my vinyl addiction will let me miss getting that).
The concert will be seated and will take place in the Space Upstairs at the Project Arts Centre, Dublin.Admission is 12 euros and includes a copy of Dot-Dash for the first 100 people.
I also got a chance to ask Maebh what was going on with You're Only Massive breaking up
"Megan has left yes yes this is true but You're Only Massive is not breaking up or ending. Au contraire mon frere. When we started we both were on a similar level of messing around - for me, You're Only Massive was also an excuse to hang out with Meg, who's one of the funniest smartest people I know. Since we started though, I've gotten really into the concept and actuality of You're Only Massive. I write every day and think about You're Only Massive all the time, even while dreaming or swimming. Meg is a writer at heart and doesn't really want to do music, whereas I want to grow musically and continue making this kind of work. Also, now we have become friends, we don't need a band in order to hang out, we can just do that".
So their you we can still expect great things from You're Only Massive in the future.

Disco-nnect is... "a guided walking tour around the south docklands that leads to a gig and a party. Beginning at the river, the tour will transform this corner of dublin 2 into a playground; a garden of fun. Your guide will invite you to participate in party games, cheerlead you along, teach you the macarena, introduce you to one another and encourage you to run amok. In an age of reality tv, it is important to note that you're only massive is on your side. They want you to feel good and won't ask you to do anything you don't want to".
The madness runs from Monday June 30th to Saturday July 5th as part of We Are Here 3.0 and tickets are available from www.project.ie or by calling Project Arts Centre on 01 8819600. Check out the Disco-nnect blog here.
Y.O.M. have an array of shows coming up in the next couple of months, lots in Ireland, and one all the way over in NYC for the Conflux Art & Technology festival. Come September the duo will be pioneering a new show based around Cooking & Domesticity entitled It's A Domestic (check that one out here).
For info on all these shows check out You're Only Massive on myspace (Where you can also download the band's new single Grand-Theft Hopkins which documents their beef with, um, someone... ). For now, here's the excellent funky poppness of Sugar Shake The Cool Away:

Foggy Notions X-Mas Party

Myself, Conor & Dylan checked out the Foggy Notions X-Mas do in Whelan's last night. The FN folks had laid out a nice spread of mince pies, jellies & Christmas crackers, while the stage was decked with tinsel and the obligatory Christmas tree. The opening band 'You're Only Massive' were pretty interesting, their final song (something about being too cool to dance) was kickass. Hopefully they'll be able to expand their live show in the future, as unfortunately it felt a little bit Karaoke with only the vocals being played live.
Final Fantasy played a very different set to Tuesday night's Vicar St show, treating the crowd to mostly new songs & covers. It got pretty lively at a few stages, particularly during 'This Is A Dream Of Win & Regine' (one of the few omissions at Vicar St), when an impromptu influx of balloons had Owen batting them away with violin & bow as he played. The brief set was rounded off with a spectacular rendition of 'Peach, Plum, Pear'. Owen seemed much more at ease during this performance than his
previous one, joking around and conversing with the crowd. All hail the festive spirit, I guess.
Girl Talk was pretty damned energetic for a man playing from a laptop, bopping around like a maniac between sporadically jumping in the air and doing the splits. Nice. We didn't get to hang around for most of his set, but from what I heard it seemed like a night of much crazy dancing was ahead.
So good job, Foggy Notions, a Christmas celebrated in style!
